In this article, we’ll explain what SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses are, how they work, their key features, and how they can help manage myopia progression in children. Read on to find out whether SEED 1dayPure EDOF lenses could be a suitable option for your child.

What are SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses?

SEED 1dayPure EDOF is a daily disposable soft contact lens designed for early myopia management and presbyopia. Developed in collaboration with the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) – an internationally recognized leader in vision research, SEED 1dayPure EDOF is a contact lens with a unique design.

It incorporates Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) technology to provide clear vision across all distances while minimizing unwanted visual effects. Rigorous clinical trials have showed good performance in slowing myopia progression and eye growth in children with myopia.1-3

How do SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses work?

SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses differ significantly from standard single vision contact lenses. While single vision lenses correct blurred vision effectively, they do not help slow the progression of myopia.

EDOF technology manipulates how light is focused from the lens to the retina – the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Rather than focusing all light to a single point (as regular single vision lenses do), SEED 1dayPure EDOF lenses use advanced optics (higher-order aberrations) to focus light over a range of points, creating an ‘extended depth of focus’.2 This allows objects to stay clearly in focus over a wide range of distances.

The other main benefit of this EDOF design is its effect in slowing myopia progression. By optimizing how light focuses within the eye – favouring light in front of the retina rather than behind, this reduces the visual cues that drive excessive eye growth. In this way, the lenses can help slow the worsening of myopia over time.

What are the features of the SEED 1dayPure EDOF lens?

A highlight of SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses is the zwitterionic SIB (SEED Ionic Bond) lens material.4

The SIB material contains equal amounts of positive and negative ions, which means the lens has an overall neutral charge – making it resistant to dust and impurities. The highly-breathable SIB material attracts moisture and reduces dryness, ensuring comfort throughout the day. SEED 1dayPure EDOF contains a UV absorber, which reduces the impact of harmful UV rays.

SEED 1dayPure EDOF also includes user-friendly features such as a fingertip closure design, where wearers can easily open and close the package with a touch of a finger, reducing contamination. 32 lenses are included in one box of SEED 1dayPure EDOF: 2 extra pieces than the standard 30 lenses per box.

As a daily disposable lens, a fresh pair of lenses is used each day, eliminating the need for cleaning solutions and optimizing hygiene. No cases of major adverse events were reported in a 1-year study.2

Should my child wear SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses or glasses?

Children with myopia need either contact lenses or glasses (spectacles) to correct blurred distance vision. Both options can also help slow myopia progression through specially designed lenses.

Deciding between SEED 1dayPure EDOF and glasses often comes down to lifestyle, comfort, and personal preference. Some children even alternate between the two on different days, depending on their activities.

SEED 1dayPure EDOF lenses give children freedom from glasses. Contact lenses are especially useful for kids who play sport or have active hobbies, as they avoid the inconvenience and risk of glasses breaking.

Even for children who aren’t heavily involved in sport, wearing contact lenses can increase confidence and satisfaction compared to glasses.5 Contact lenses can also be more convenient for everyday wear since they don’t fog up, slip down, or limit peripheral vision.

The availability of myopia control treatments for children can vary by country. Contact lenses can be a great option for kids of many ages, even if it’s something you haven’t considered before. Ask your child’s optometrist or eye doctor whether a trial of SEED 1dayPure EDOF lenses is available.

Information

Besides soft contact lenses, other effective options for myopia management include myopia control glasses, orthokeratology lenses, atropine eye drops, and red light therapy.

Do SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses really slow myopia?

The BHVI’s extended depth of focus design used in SEED 1dayPure EDOF has been studied extensively as a myopia control approach in children. This EDOF technology platform is also shared with another product – Mark’ennovy MYLO, a monthly disposable soft contact lens for myopia management.

SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lens comes in three types – low, middle, and high. The SEED 1dayPure EDOF Mid (+1.50D) contact lenses have been shown to slow myopia progression and eye growth (axial elongation) in clinical trials. These studies have provided valuable insights about the treatment’s effectiveness, safety, and more.

Highlighted below are some key facts about the effectiveness of SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses.

  • A 2-year clinical trial in China found that test lenses using the same design as SEED 1dayPure EDOF Mid contact lenses slowed prescription change and eye growth by about a quarter.1
  • A 1-year clinical trial in India found that SEED 1dayPure EDOF Mid contact lenses slowed prescription change and eye growth by about a half.2
  • A 1-year study in Japan found that over 40% of children wearing SEED 1dayPure EDOF Mid lenses showed stable eye growth.3

While starting treatment earlier is best, it’s never too late for your child to start wearing SEED 1dayPure EDOF to slow down their myopia.

Is the vision in SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses as good as regular contacts?

SEED 1dayPure EDOF lenses give kids clear, comfortable vision and freedom from glasses, while also helping to control myopia – all without compromising vision quality.

The extended depth of focus provides clear and stable vision over a wide range of distances – from reading and using digital devices to outdoor play.

Over 80% of children find SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses comfortable to wear.2 It can take a short time to adjust to new lenses, and some children may notice mild dryness or brief fluctuations in vision shortly after putting them on. These effects typically disappear once the lenses settle on the eyes.

When should my child wear their SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses?

Based on the clinical trials, children wore SEED 1dayPure EDOF contact lenses on average around 12 hours per day.2 Kids who wore the lenses full-time (≥6 days per week) were more likely to have significantly less myopia progression compared to those who didn’t wear them as often.1

In practical terms, it is ideal to wear the lenses all the time and every day, except when sleeping or showering. If contact lenses are not able to be worn at a given time, then children should wear their glasses with the correct prescription.

Wearing time is very important for achieving the best treatment results. This rule is the same whether the treatment involves contact lenses or glasses – they work best when worn full-time and every day.If the lenses are not being worn or being worn for a short period of time each day, then the level of effectiveness will likely be reduced.

What you can do next
